First Annual East TN Polar Plunge

Join Us for the 2019 East Tennessee Polar Plunge

Freeze your paws for a cause and take the plunge on January 1, 2019 at Cherokee Lake in Jefferson County, TN for the first annual East Tennessee Polar Plunge!  Proceeds from the 2019 East Tennessee Polar Plunge will go to Keep the TN River Beautiful Foundation to help in their efforts to perform lake and river clean-ups, and to the Middle East TN Tourism Council to help promote the 9 Lakes, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and State Parks in East Tennessee.  This event is hosted by the Middle East Tennessee Tourism Council in conjunction with Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and Cherokee Lake Realty. 

East TN Polar Plunge Event Information

The event kicks off at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the TVA Dam Boat Launch and Park at 1001 Cherokee Dam Rd., Jefferson City, TN.  There is a costume contest and parade at 11:00 AM with participants dashing to plunge at promptly 12:00 noon.  Early registration has been open since mid-October and ends on Monday, December 31, 2018.  Registering early will help guarantee a souvenir long sleeve t-shirt and save on their registration fee!  Day of registration will open at 10am on New Year’s Day.

All participants are welcome and encouraged to enter our Parade of Penguins Costume Contest!  Don your zaniest, funniest, most-creative costume for the contest and parade.  You may enter the contest as an individual or a group!  Knox County Mayor, Glenn Jacobs, will be among the honorary judges! There will be first, second, and third place winners for each division.  Prizes are as follows:


First Place- Kayak and Paddles from Walmart Jefferson City

Second Place- Rod and Reel provided by Bucks N Bass

Third Place- Cooler and Cups from Walmart in Jefferson City


First Place – Cherokee Lake Gift Basket provided by Cherokee Lake Users Association

Second Place- Hibbett Back Packs from Hibbett Sports in Jefferson City

Third Place- Gift cards for Gondolier/Off the Hook

The costume contest and parade begin promptly at 11:00 AM with the winners being announced following the plunge.

Post parade, participants will get ready for the Polar Plunge!  You’ll jump in right at 12 noon with Walters State Community College President, Dr. Tony Miksa, leading the way—feel free to hang out in there as long as you would like.  After you plunge, stick around for local vendors, music entertainment, food trucks such as Patriot Pizza, GrillBilly Smoke, and Snowbird Coffee, and more on site!
